From March 7th to 8th, 2024, the New Xiangya Clinical Data Research Forum, jointly hosted by Central South University's Xiangya Third Hospital and the Furong Laboratory, was successfully held in Changsha. The forum brought together renowned scholars from various fields across the nation, integrating academic ideas and research methodologies from diverse disciplines. Guided by a principle of inclusivity and openness, the event aimed to establish a high-level interdisciplinary platform for research in health and medical big data.

The forum covered six main topics, including research on chronic disease burden, clinical research based on medical data, environmental health research, clinical research design and statistics, disease research driven by multi-omics, and big data artificial intelligence and translation. Experts and scholars from institutions such as the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Central South University, Beihang University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Sichuan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Capital Medical University, and Fuxing Pharmaceutical Company delivered insightful presentations at the forum. During the discussions, experts not only exchanged ideas in their respective fields but also engaged in lively debates about future research directions and development trends. This open and inclusive academic atmosphere provided valuable opportunities for attendees to engage in intellectual exchange and spark inspiration.

Chen Xiang, Executive Vice President of Central South University, Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, and Director of the Furong Laboratory, attended the forum. Prior to the event, a ceremony was held to establish the Clinical Data Research Center of Xiangya Third Hospital, Central South University. Chen remarked that in the digital age, data has become one of the most critical factors of production, driving the development of strategic emerging industries and future industries. Developing data science has become a national strategy. With the advent of the big data era, clinical data research has become an important direction in the field of medicine. This forum will serve as an important platform for Xiangya to explore data science and promote clinical research. It will play a crucial role in strengthening collaboration with domestic and international universities, research institutions, and enterprises, attracting and cultivating high-level research-oriented talents, and promoting innovation in clinical data research.

This year marks the 110th anniversary of the founding of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University. This forum, as part of a series of academic activities, not only celebrates the glorious history of Xiangya School of Medicine over the past century but also offers profound insights into the future development of medicine. Moving forward, Xiangya School of Medicine will continue to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the international and domestic medical community, promote the development of medical research and education, cultivate more outstanding medical talents, and contribute more wisdom and strength to the cause of human health. At the same time, the school will leverage the series of academic activities to further drive innovation and development in the field of medicine, actively contributing to the construction of a global community of health and well-being.
