The 4th Xiangya International Ophthalmology Forum & 2022 Annual Meeting of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Group, Ophthalmoplasty and Orbital Diseases Group, Ocular Trauma and Occupational Eye Diseases Group and Ophthalmic Nursing Group of the Ophthalmology Committee of Hunan Medical Association, and the Annual Meeting of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Group of Ophthalmology Committee of Cross-Straits Medical Exchange Association was held online in Changsha from November 26 to 27, 2022, co-organized by the Ophthalmology Committee of Hunan Medical Association, Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and Cataract and Refractive Surgery Group of Ophthalmology Committee of Cross-Straits Medical Exchange Association. Experts in the field of ophthalmology from home and abroad gathered in the cloud to share the latest basic research progress and clinical diagnosis and treatment methods and experiences in ophthalmology. 95,200 people from all over the world watched the Conference through live streaming.

Prof. Chen Lizhang, Vice President of Central South University, Prof. Zhu Jianhua, Vice President and Secretary General of Hunan Medical Association, Prof. Liu Zuguo, Chairman of Ophthalmology Committee of Cross-Straits Medical Exchange Association, and Prof. Xia Xiaobo, Vice President of Xiangya Hospital, Director of Hunan Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, and Head of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Group and Vice Director of Ophthalmology Committee of Cross-Straits Medical Exchange Association attended the Conference and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Ji Dan, Executive Deputy Director of Hunan Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology.

Focusing on the latest development frontier of ophthalmology, precision medicine, clinical experience, management of surgical complications, perioperative medication and other basic and clinical research, 112 top ophthalmology experts (including 8 professors from the United States, 1 professor from Germany and 3 professors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of China), shared the most cutting-edge academic research results in ophthalmology. These experts included Prof. Xie Lixin, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of Shandong Eye Institute, Prof. Su Guohui, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Institute of CNS Regeneration of Jinan University, Prof. Fan Xianqun, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. Yao Ke, Chairman of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society and President of Zhejiang University Eye Hospital, Prof. Wang Ningli, President of the Ophthalmologist Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Director of Beijing Tongren Hospital Eye Center, Prof. Sun Xinghuai, Chairman Designate of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society and former President of Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, Prof. Dan Goldman of University of Michigan, Prof. Ethan A Rossi of University of Pittsburgh and Prof. Nils Loewen of University of Würzburg.

The Conference was mainly carried out in the form of special report. At the same time, a variety of academic exchange activities were held, such as Hunan Ocular Trauma Surgery Video Competition and Academic Salon, Ophthalmic Nursing Workshop on New Techniques and New Advances and Satellite Meeting, which follow the hot spots and difficulties of the discipline and cover both the frontier progress and clinical practice of ophthalmic science research. It is helpful to accurately understand the development area of ophthalmology and is of great significance to future scientific research and clinical application. Besides, it also plays an exemplary and leading role in stimulating the growth of young and middle-aged doctors. The participants expressed that they were inspired by the rich clinical experience and theoretical knowledge of the experts, and gained a lot from the Conference.
