From July 19 to 21, the “Fourth Hunan Oncology Conference and Tenth Xiaoxiang Oncology Forum” took place in Changsha, Hunan. The event was organized by the Hunan Anti-Cancer Association, Central South University’s Xiangya School of Medicine, and Furong Laboratory, and co-hosted by Xiangya School of Medicine’s affiliated cancer hospital/Hunan Cancer Hospital, Oncology Pharmacy magazine, and the Xiangya Medical Journals Cluster. The conference, themed “Tracing Origins, Seeking Innovation, and Precision Prevention and Treatment”, aimed to foster innovation, translation, cooperation, and sharing, providing a platform for academic exchange and sharing achievements to advance oncology research and development. With 16 sub-forums, the conference featured renowned academicians and experts from across the country who shared new perspectives, technologies, and methods in clinical oncology research. Over 1,800 oncology professionals from within and outside the province attended the event.

Chen Xiang warmly welcomed the experts and guests, emphasizing that the conference aimed to explore the latest advances and future trends in oncology, gather collective wisdom to promote high-quality development in the discipline, and showcase China’s latest achievements, cutting-edge concepts, and innovative technologies in oncology and other major diseases. He expressed confidence that the forum would deepen cross-disciplinary collaboration and facilitate resource sharing.
Liu Pingan’s Address
Liu Pingan highlighted the commitment of the Hunan Provincial Health Commission to improve public health literacy and advance the high-quality development of cancer prevention and treatment in Hunan by establishing a sound system, promoting preventive measures, and enhancing service capabilities.
Participating Academicians
Esteemed academicians including Fan Daiming, Zhou Honghao, Chen Zhinan, Zhan Qimin, Yu Jinming, Lin Dongxin, Chen Guoqiang, and Wu Tangchun, as well as over 20 other distinguished experts and scholars, shared the latest research developments and breakthroughs in their respective fields. This provided valuable learning opportunities for participants and further promoted innovation and integration in the field of oncology.
Experts reported on cutting-edge topics such as multi-omics cancer research, anti-cancer immune mechanisms and immunotherapy, tumor metabolism reprogramming, novel immune cell therapies, gene editing technologies, and precision clinical oncology research. The conference emphasized the importance of precision medicine in cancer prevention and treatment, noting that individualized treatments based on precision medicine are crucial for improving cancer treatment outcomes. Experts shared personalized treatment plans targeting specific cancer types and patient characteristics, particularly for common cancers such as lung and breast cancer, highlighting the significance of identifying susceptibility genes and tumor-specific markers to enhance treatment efficacy and patient survival rates.
On the morning of the second day, the Fourth Hunan Oncology Conference Awards Ceremony honored the winners of the second Hunan Anti-Cancer Association Science and Technology Awards and recognized outstanding papers.
Award Ceremony
As a major innovation platform in Hunan Province, Furong Laboratory plays a vital role in implementing the province’s “Three Highs and Four News” strategy. The laboratory focuses on “precision detection and diagnosis, precision drugs and treatment, and precision instruments and interventions”, driving a leap from traditional to high-tech, efficient, and high-quality productivity, exemplifying the transformation of productivity under the new development philosophy. Moving forward, Furong Laboratory will deepen cross-disciplinary cooperation, build an efficient collaborative research ecosystem, and stimulate innovation to achieve breakthroughs in cancer prevention and treatment technologies. The lab aims to contribute “Hunan wisdom”, benefiting public health, leading the construction of a healthy Hunan, and contributing more wisdom and innovation to the “Healthy China 2030” goal.
