Recently, at the annual meeting of the Chinese American Pathologists Association (CAPA) held in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, distinguished alumnus of Xiangya School of Medicine, Professor Larry Wang, a renowned international pathology expert, officially assumed the presidency of the association for the term 2024-2025.
Professor Larry Wang, an outstanding alumnus of Xiangya School of Medicine (XYSM), serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors and the former President of the Xiangya Overseas Alumni Association. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine degree from Hunan Medical University in 1982 (now XYSM), followed by a Master’s degree in 1989, and a doctoral degree from Hunan Medical University/University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1996. From 1990 to 1992 and from 1992 to 1999, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine and the University of Southern California School of Medicine, respectively. He also completed residency training in pathology at the University of Texas School of Medicine, Houston and fellowship training in surgical pathology at New York University Medical Center. Currently, he is a professor of Clinical Pathology, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, and Director of Surgical Pathology, and Associate Director of the Center for Global Health at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, California, USA. He has long been engaged in medical and scientific research related to pediatric pathology and is a renowned expert in clinical research on pediatric cholestatic liver disease and neuroblastoma.
Since its establishment in 2003, the Chinese American Pathologists Association has grown into an internationally recognized organization of pathologists, with nearly 950 registered members actively engaged in the field of pathology in the United States. Many members have become academic leaders in various fields and hold professional leadership positions. The association also collaborates with other international pathology organizations such as the Chinese Society of Pathology to hold a series of international academic conferences and enjoys a high reputation in the international pathology community.
