From August 18th to 19th, Chen Xiang, Executive Vice President of Central South University and Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, together with Vice President Li Zhihong, led a delegation to visit alumni enterprises in Shenzhen and engage in research and exchange activities. The delegation included Chang Shi, Party Secretary of Xiangya School of Medicine, Wu Minghua, Executive Vice Dean, Wu Shiming, Deputy Party Secretary, and Vice Deans Huang Zhijun, Liu Hong, and Zeng Yi, as well as Guo Yadong, Vice Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences.
At the DAS Intellitech Building, the delegation attended the Central South University Shenzhen Xiangya Alumni Symposium. This marked the first time that nearly 40 experts from the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, along with alumni from various fields, gathered for such a symposium in Shenzhen. The participants praised Xiangya’s 110-year legacy and its significant contributions to humanity, offering suggestions for the school’s future development and expressing their hopes for continued success. During the symposium, alumni emphasized the importance of consistently building the Xiangya brand, sharing positive stories, and creating both official and grassroots platforms for alumni communication to enhance engagement and resources. They also expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to connect with the school leadership, feeling the school’s care and attention toward the alumni community. The alumni pledged their full support for the school’s development. Chen Xiang acknowledged that alumni are among the most vital pillars for the school’s growth and expressed gratitude for the longstanding support from Shenzhen alumni. He emphasized the importance of uniting alumni and strengthening the bonds between them and the school, which is crucial for the school’s progress. On behalf of the university, Chen Xiang extended a sincere invitation to the Shenzhen alumni, welcoming them to return to celebrate the 110th anniversary ofXiangya Medical Education and discuss the school’s future. During the symposium, Wu Minghua provided an overview of Xiangya Medicine’s development and introduced the series of events planned for the 110th anniversary.
At the XbotPark Robotics Base, the delegation had an in-depth discussion about education with alumnus Li Zezhang, one of the founders of the base. They discussed training plans, the curriculum system, and international case studies for the medical-engineering crossover program. XbotPark Robotics Base, supported by the Dongguan Municipal Government and Songshan Lake National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, was founded by Professor Li Zezhang (Director of the Automation Center at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and founder of DJI), Professor Gao Bingqiang (former Dean of the School of Engineering at HKUST), and Professor Gan Jie (Vice Dean of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business). The base operates under a “government-funded, enterprise-managed” model and is dedicated to cultivating engineers and leading talents in robotics and advanced equipment technology, using a project-based learning approach.
At the BGI TimeSpace Center, the delegation toured the sequencing center, time-space laboratory, and synthesis platform, and held discussions with alumnus Wang Jian, Chairman and Co-founder of BGI Group. Central South University and BGI Group have established a close partnership, agreeing to collaborate on scientific research, platform development, and the incubation and industrialization of technological achievements. This collaboration also focuses on promoting emerging industries in the life sciences sector through joint talent training, the creation of internship and practice bases, academic exchanges, and the mutual appointment of mentors, with the aim of building a high-quality, internationally recognized talent cultivation and research practice base. The delegation also visited more than 30 students from seven different majors who are participating in the first Central South University-Shenzhen BGI Technology Co., Ltd. internship program.
Li Zhihong also led a visit to Shenzhen Nanshan People’s Hospital.
